Dear Lord, the closer we are to You in our individual walks, the more we can reflect You and Your attributes to each other. Spiritual growth is such an essential part of life, and yet we can easily neglect it simply because we are so busy. Some call it the tyranny of the urgent.

God, please establish reminders throughout my day to connect with You—to spend time in Your Word, in prayer, in worship, and in Your presence. Please do the same for my spouse. Give us both a fire and a passion for knowing You—not merely knowing about You, but knowing You so well that we can discern Your voice and Your direction. Help us to experience You more fully and more intimately. As we do, this will overflow into our relationship with each other because our marriage exists to reflect the unity of the Triune God and to display Your attributes to others. In Christ’s name, amen.

It is far too easy to get off track in the area of spiritual growth and seek spiritual knowledge for its own sake. Yet that’s like a husband who carries around a boxful of letters from his wife, content to read them instead of using the insights they contain to deepen his relationship with her.
